MPEG Layer 3 Licensing Issues
Licensing FMOD products does not include a license to use mp3. If you intend to use mp3 in your product, you must contact Thompson Multimedia and arrange the purchase of an mp3 license. Information about mp3 licensing fees can be found at www.mp3licensing.com.
Game developers using mp3 are elligible for the 'game' license which costs $2500 USD per title.
Note that with games distributing less than 5000 copies, no license is required and mp3 can be used for free.
