FMOD errors when launching unity

Hi
I Just installed Unity 5.3.4f1 on my new mac mini and as soon as I open the editor I see 27 error messages similar to the one below (does not happen on my PC).

FMOD failed to get number of drivers …Error enumerating the
available driver list.List may be inconsistent due to a recent device
addition or removal Instantiation of FMOD effect type 3 failed
UnityEditor.EditorAssemblies:SetLoadedEditorAssemblies(Assembly)

I have no clue where that comes from. It does not happen on my PC. Sound does not seem to work and importing sound files crashes the editor. Outside of unity sound works fine. could this be a bug? countless hours of googling resulted in absolutely nothing. Nobody from Unity is providing any support or help and my project is completely stuck right now.

I stumble across this forum and decided to give it a shot. Maybe someone can save my day

system info:
Mac Mini 2.6Ghz i5, 8GB RAM running latest OS X (10.11.4)
Unity 5.3.4f1

Thanks,

If this is caused by the inbuilt version of FMOD inside the Unity editor than we cannot provide any support for it.

Please follow up with Unity.
