I use fmod im my program. The program is executed just after the start of windows (it is located in the startup folder) and its fmod FSOUND_Init(44100, 32, 0) function returns 0. When the program is executed after the system starts it initializes and works fine. To be specific, my program is dll and it is a plugin for the Miranda IM program. I implemented some hack which tries to periodicaly initialize the fmod but I want to get rid of it. Did anybody encounter this behaviour ?

Maybe your sounddevice is allready in use due startup sound?

Most soundcards can only be used once, e.g. either windows sounds or your media player;
Means when starting your media player fails when a windows sound is playing, or that your windows sounds won’t work during your player is running.

As windows normaly run as wavemapper, if MAY work when your application uses directsound, but that’s not sure.

I know this problem because i baught 2 soundcards because I wanted an optical in/out, but as both these soundcards had this problem, I’m still using my old Sound Blaster Live! value.
A friend of mine is still looking for a new soundcard that’s able to play multiple sounds :)
