So I just downloaded fmodapi340.zip today and started playing around with the callback features. I couldn’t get neither the order callbacks nor the instrument callbacks to be called. I had a look at the samples to see where it was used and samplessimplesimple.exe makes use of it. When I run the program and select the following:

1 – Direct Sound
1 – Primary Sound Driver
1 – MOD

I’ll see Playing “InvTro’94 Music” and all of the instruments it uses. Under that I’ll see the order, row, time, channels playing, and cpu usage. I will never see the “Order Callback” nor the “Inst Callback” messages specified in the code. Am I missing something obvious? I placed the fmod.dll that came in the ZIP file in that same directory and there are no other fmod.dll in my path.

Thanks,
Laos

These are the 3 different computers I’ve tried it on and all of them have the same behavior.

Microsoft Windows Me
4.90.3000
Creative SB Live! Value
Driver Date: 08/02/2000

Microsoft Windows 2000
5.00.2195
Service Pack 2
Creative SB Live! Value
Driver Date: 8/29/2000

Microsoft Windows 98
4.10.1998
Sound Blaster AudioPCI 64V
Driver Date: 10/20/98

The date on the fmod.dll is Friday, November 30, 2001, 9:56:04 AM. The size is 128,000 bytes. The version is 3.4.0.0.

This is a step-by-step of what I did:
1. I downloaded <A HREF=”http://52.88.2.202/files/fmodapi340.zip”>http://52.88.2.202/files/fmodapi340.zip</A&gt;
2. I unzipped it to C:fmodapi340
3. I double-clicked on C:fmodapi340samplessimplesimple.exe and got this message: “The dynamic link library fmod.dll could not be found in the specified path”
4. I copied C:fmodapi340apifmod.dll to C:fmodapi340samplessimple
5. I double-clicked on C:fmodapi340samplessimplesimple.exe and selected the “1” option for all three menus. I hear the music just fine. I see the order, row, time, etc messages. I never saw any of the order or instrument callback messages.

I’ve uploaded the output I see:
<A HREF=”http://www.shroomies.com/fmod/simpleOut.zip”>http://www.shroomies.com/fmod/simpleOut.zip</A&gt;

Thanks for any help you can give me. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

I updated my sound card drivers so now my test machine is as the following:

Microsoft Windows 2000
5.00.2195
Service Pack 2
Creative SB Live! Value
Driver Date: 11/2/2001
Driver Version: 3509.2.0.0

It still did not fix my problem. Am I really the only person getting this problem on multiple machines? 8(

Alright, I have more evidence it’s a bug. I got a hold of a beta version of fmod 3.4 and samplessimplesimple.exe works fine. I get all of the order and instrument callbacks. Here are the details on this beta fmod.dll.

Version: 3.4.0.0
Size: 127,488 bytes.
Date: Saturday, September 29, 2001, 6:03:08 PM.

If this is a bug, could it be fixed in the next release? ๐Ÿ˜Ž

On a side note, I’ve only been playing with fmod for a couple days but it is so intuitive and powerful! It does exactly what I need to do and so much more. The API is very thought-out and the documentation is excellent. My compliments to the author.

Thanks,
Laos
