Problems playing song:

http://www.r2.com.au/problemsong.mp3

This file is the first section of a song that a friend was having problems playing with fmod.

I’ve cropped this song (read: used hex edit to kill the end of the file, i know this corrupts frames, but the point is not the end)

anyway, when trying to load the ‘full version -> 72mb’ or this version, fmod can’t play it. It can’t play it in both the latest version 3, or in the latest alpha of 7, and returns ‘invalid file type’

Winamp recognises it and plays it fine.

If I use a program called ‘mp3trim’ then it trims a bunch of bad frames and other junk, and then fmod can play it.

However in the interests of getting fmod to support as much as possible, i’ve uploaded the small chunk of the 72mb file (only 200 odd KB of it)

I’m not sure if it has something to do with the tag on the front of the mp3…

gah, sorry, http://www.r2.com.au/problemsound.mp3

To me, it looks like the ‘junk’ is just the tag, does that count, or do you mean junk after the tag?

Ok, since I am making an audio player, and I can’t detect what sorts of files the user will play (corrupt or not), is it possible for you to allow a function that can overide the default 4k if the developer requires it?

I would prefer not to have to do this, but if this is the only solution then i guess i will have to.

Does this scenario make sense, or will it never happen?:

If a song fails to play (reason being that it is a network path, and it timed out after 30secs), and i then move the location and try again, and it freezes for 30 secs again…and i move the location and try again, etc…

Or do i have to simply watch for the ‘error: unknown fileformat’, and then try several times?

It would just feel a little cleaner if I could tell fmod to search until the end of the file (if must be), and then just call open and not have to worry about seeking in increments, etc.

Of course this sort of thing would probably only be used for those people out there who use FMOD as an audio player application where users can select their own files, so I can understand if you don’t want to add support, but it would be nice :)
