I’m loading and playing back MP3 files in my Win/Mac program. The only difference codewise between the PC and Mac versions is some UI and very basic filesystem code, so the FMOD section of it is exactly the same.

In Windows, I can load MP3s from anywhere: the HDD, a CD, etc. and they work fine. On OSX, I can load MP3s from the HDD, but when I try to load from a CD FMOD produces an FMOD_ERR_FILE_FORMAT error. Note that this is not some special MP3 CD; it is just a regular filesystem CD that happens to have MP3 files on it. If I copy the MP3s from the CD to the HDD, they open up just fine. And FMOD can apparently find the file, it just doesn’t recognize the file’s format. The files play well off the CD in iTunes.

The OSX versions I’ve tested on are 10.3.4, 10.2.7, 10.2.9 and 10.4 Prerelease; all show this problem. I’m using the latest FMOD version. Has anyone else seen this? Is there anything I can do to solve the problem? Thanks very much!

I just tested it out and there doesn’t seem to be a problem. How are you accessing the CD? You have to give FMOD the full path to where the cd is mounted (eg /Volumes/cdname/song.mp3) rather than just the volume name.

I’m getting my path from a Carbon Nav Services Open File Dialog, and you’re right, it doesn’t include the full volume. That’s certainly something in my dialog handler. Thanks for the help!
