Hello!

I am writing a game using SDL and FMOD. The exact same code runs on linux and win32. I hear all the sounds and music with no problems. However…when I compile using XTools 1.5 on OS 10.3.7 I find that the music files (MOD and IT) do not start when I expect them to. Instead they only start after a few calls to start and stop the music.

Is there something special I should do for OS X that I may have missed? I thought I read the documentation carefully but perhaps there is some mac guru that knows the secret. If so please let me know!

i’m running 10.3.8 now, with the latest fmod. I find that the first time I call any sound effect or music it doesn’t play, but the second time it begins as expected. The exact same code to call fmod is being run on win32 and linux and there it works without a problem. I would make a test to demonstrate but i just don’t have the time :(

Is it possible that on the first play call the audio is paused, and that subsequent calls unpause? It’s the only reasonable idea I can come up with…

I wasn’t able to access my OSX machine until today and I found the mistake in about 2 seconds. It should have crippled every platform but somehow, magically, it did not.
