Hi,

I’ ve been plaing around with the latest beta on my SuSE 9.2 system and i am not able to get the sound with ALSA working. Finally, I tried all your example programs and none of them worked in ALSA mode. OSS is working fine. Indeed I am using the OSS2ALSA wrapper 😉 therefore I know it should work.

Can you give more details as to how its not working? Does it crash or return an error message? or is there just no sound coming out?

Have you tried running other applications (xmms etc) using their alsa output, does that work okay?

Hi chenpo,

Yes, my ALSA does work with fmod3.74 and all my other apps xmms and so on. I am using the latest alsa-libs and the error message is something like 33 … Memory Error… . It’s the same as last time when nothing worked for user mode. Oh, yes and it’s user mode sorry I didn’t test root-right. I will do that tonight.

Hi chenpo,

I just rechecked the ALSA prob.
So, I couldn’t get it working with OUTPUTTYPE_ALSA neighter in user mode nor in root mode. The recording sample with input ALSA doesn’t work, too. It seems that ALSA doesn’t work at all. My PC config is AMD64 3000+ and SuSE 9.2 AMD64-Version. The 64-Bit souldn’t matter since all my other tools work properly with ALSA and 32-Bit mode and FMOD 3.74 does work , too. I hope I could help you with these information. Do you need more system spec’s?

best regards
Matthias

Hi, have you tried the new build that was just released ( 4.00.18 )? I made a minor change to ALSA which may have fixed the problem.

Let me know how that goes

Hi chenpo,

yes, I did and my best friend too. He’s got a AMD 1,1 Ghz machine with KNOPPIX 3.7 on it. And he has the same problems. The std output for fmod seems to be OSS, but ALSA doesn’t work for us :( (We downloaded the latest 4.00.18.)

I think i figured out what might be going on. Can you try out the latest beta ( 4.00.19 ) and let me know how that goes.

If it still doesn’t work can you let me know what error code is being returned from which function?

Thanks,
