I’m trying to figure out how to use the designer tool to make backgrounds and ambients. I want to have a one-shot sound that plays intermittently.
Let’s say I’ve got a howling that comes out the end of a vent. I have 3 to 4 howls made, but I don’t want them to keep playing back to back like a looped sound. I need to insert a lot of silence between them. So I want to place a sound event that has silence 90% of the time and then 10% of the time chooshes to play the event (thereby picking one of the howls).
How do I got about doing this?

Excellent, that gets close to the effect, but it also creates more issues.
Setting a velocity in the parameter bar makes it so that the sound always begins playing at the same interval. I see that I could add actual audio files filled with silence to break it up, but that doesn’t feel like the most efficient way to go about things (I have so many sounds going already, using channels for playing silence seems like a waste). Is there a better way of randomizing the intervals? Maybe adding a ‘chance to play’ under the ‘Sound Properties’ menu would work?
And another question for ya. This time I’ve got a cave drip. I’ve cut up about 2 minutes worth of material into small sections (that are all varying lenths of time) that can be played in a random order and all fit together nicely. I’ve made a sound definition called Cave Drips and set the play mode to Random.
When trying to make the event, I run into some problems. I would like the event to play a random sound from the definition and slap another random sound onto the end (etc etc etc). In the event editor I can get it to loop one sound over and over again (by the way, it is always picking the same sound to play even though the Sound Definition is set to random) or to play one sound one time (by setting sound properties to ‘looped’ or ‘one shot’) Is there a useful solution within the designer tool to this problem?
Finally, I’m wondering what kinds of features are being planned for dynamic music support and when will they are likelye to show up?
