A couple different musicians I’ve spoken to that use module files for a lot of their compositions have mentioned to me that they’re annoyed that most modern module playback software/libraries always interpolate samples. Would it be possible to get some sort of a switch to turn off interpolation, since modules use a special mixing engine?

[quote="brett":3ljdkji0]we will expose our resamplers as an option, but i don’t see how they think it will sound better without interpolation, all it will do is give a high pitched hiss.

fmod’s mixer will let you choose between no interpolation, linear (default), cubic, and 5 point spline high quality interpolation. we’ll probably set it so you can change this for standard FMOD_SOFTWARE sounds globally, and also per sound (maybe in creatsoundexinfo structure)[/quote:3ljdkji0]I think they prefer the more ‘sharp’ sound of non-interpolated audio because they’re trying to create songs in the style of the old NES/SNES audio engines. That’s my best guess, anyway. It’s not a huge deal to me, but I figured I’d ask – anything to please the audio guys :)
