I recently use FMOD to record tracks from a Net radio. No problem here. I did however notice that when playing them back, some of them had a squelch at the start.

The squelch is only apparent when using FMOD to play back the recorded track. Using WMP, Winamp or iTunes (or an assorted array of other players) yields no squelch at all.

It might just be some bad data at the start of the track, but then again, it might not.

You can grab it from [url:1cg4mbvr]http://www.r2.com.au/fmod/squelch.mp3[/url:1cg4mbvr].

It reproduces every time using playstream. I’ve noticed this in other tracks as well (not just recorded from FMOD example), so I think it might be some common error?

Also note that opening this is an application such as GoldWave and viewing the waveform, does not show any discrepencies.

Playing it in GoldWave you also don’t hear the squelch (nor any of the other media applications).

Hence I still wonder if it is something in the file that is causing FMOD to make the squelch like sound. (bad data?)

Any news on this problem?

I’m assuming Brett is at GDC and won’t be back to answer for a while, is that correct?
