For our new game we are using fmod with dsound output.

On Win98SE test machine the sound is heavily disturbed. After a while it becomes clearer and all sounds are played correctly.

There are no such problems with WinXP on machine with the same hardware configuration, though.

Does anyone else experienced such behavior?

Thanks for the reply. Can you make any recommendations/heuristics for fmod buffer size depending on the operating system.

Win 9x doesn’t perform as good as NT is multitasking apps. It could be a CPU usage issue. For instance, if your main thread (gfx engine) uses a lot of CPU, fmod won’t have enough processor time to fill the sound buffer.

BTW, using a larger buffer won’t harm on XP.
