I’ve uploaded an archive to upload.ftp.org /ADPCM_Problems with the fev and fsb files. You can reproduce the first two problems using this archive.

1) The popping sound we were hearing with PCM is the result of the pitch randomizer feature. You hear a pop when the sound terminates. If I disable pitch randomizer, it was [ -0.1, 0.1 ], the pop goes away. Play Master/SFX/Weapons/M4/WPN_M4_FirePLR in the WPN_M4 PCM Project.

  1. Please compare Master/SFX/Weapons/M4_WPN_M4_ALTExplode in both the PCM and ADPCM version. Something horrible happened to the ADPCM version. I’ve tried changing quality settings and the event definition, but the ADPCM always seems corrupt. You can also compare the HMV sounds, they seem to suffer the same problem.

  2. I still get a crash with the latest version (4.0.15) on EventSystem->unload when using ADPCM files. Works fine with PCM.

Best regards,
Michael Marks.

are you sure you are using the latest version. The latest version doesnt allow you to change quality settings for adpcm.

Using FMOD Designer 1.4.15 (Jul 14 2006)

Right click on a Wave file in the Wave banks view and select, "Adjust Waveform quality". The "Compression Quality" option is disabled for ADPCM, but not the right click option. Note that I had these ADPCM corruption problems with 1.4.04 all the way through 1.4.15 using the default settings.

hi those settings dont do anything for adpcm because its not variable quality, but i see what you mean about adpcm vs pcm i’ll see if i can work out why.

I couldnt get it to ‘pop’ at the end of the sample though for #1, it sounded normal to me, but my laptop doesnt have hardware accelerated audio so it could be why.
Could you then try forcing the bank to ‘force software’ to see if that makes any difference?

Hi,
Will the upcoming FMOD release have this problem fixed? I did not see it in the revision.txt for 4.04.25. Also, is there a target date for 4.04.25 to be moved to "stable"?
Many thanks,
Daniel

The ADPCM issue has already been resolved. We’ll be making a new stable release within the next three weeks.

In my testing, our ADPCM issues were resolved in 4.04.25 (development), however the fixes were not in 4.04.24 (stable).
