Does a channel take on the priority of a sample playing via it, or are a channels priority and a samples priority treated separatly?

If a channel does take on the priorty of a sample, when the sample has stopped playing, I assume the priority of the channel returns to some default level. Is that a correct assumption?

Also, when FSOUND_SetPriority() is used, is the prority of the channel being set or is the samples default priority being updated?

If the channels priority is being set, does it return to some default value after the sample has stopped, of does the channels priority stay at the new level?
