I am using FMOD to play the weapon sounds in my game, but I start to hear a lot of crackles when there are a lot of sounds playing at once. If more than one person are firing a machinegun, it all goes to hell. I play all the sounds with FSOUND_FREE for the channel number, but all the sounds have the same priority so they start to kick eachother off when there is a lot of action. Is there any way that I can use FSOUND_FREE but simply have the playsound fail if there are no free channels rather than taking one from a different sound? Is there a more elegant solution?

Well, adding a maxplayback funct would be nice, and I will work on that I guess…. is there any way to mix the channels so that a sound can be played wihout taking up another channel?

Just increase the maximum channels setting… 😉
