I have written a small application that receives audio from a stream over a LAN. Everything works fine when I’m running it on a single processor at ~900 MHz.

Recently I have moved the app to a dual processor P4 Xeon 1.7 GHz (Dell) and that seems to be a problem.

Periodically (every 7 minutes in this case) the sound gets chopped up for about 45 seconds then it suddenly returns to normal again.

I have tried to write every sample that enters the stream callback to a file and there the sound is nice and continuous.

I have not changed any code after I moved it and the problem is identical with both the 3.4 and 3.5 dll.

Any ideas someone ?

Thanks in advance.

May it be a soundcard/drivers problem?

I remember a problem like this when I programmed soundblasters card in dos with a smaller buffersize, i.e. 255 instead of 256 bytes . The sound goes choppy and metallic after a short period and then returned normal.

What kind of soundcard you have?
