i’m getting this error on EventSystem::update() in my game project, but not when i run the examples. i have a SoundBlaster Audiogy 2 ZS, driver version 5.12.4.1196 (8/11/2006), and i have the latest fmod win32 release.

this is the error desc., as per the help file:

"A call to a standard soundcard driver failed, which could possibly mean a bug in the driver or resources were missing or exhausted. "

there can’t be a bug in my driver if i can run the examples, so maybe its a resource allocation problem. do you guys have any advice on how i might be able to track this down?

by the way, if i ignore the error, the system seems to be running with no hitches, but this still scares me.

thanks

Try doing something like System::setHardwareChannels(0,24,0,24); to reduce the number of available hardware voices accessible. It can be a driver error, like you say it is probably to do with resources (ie number of hardware voices being utilized). It could also be to do with your source data (do you have any sounds with odd sample rates, or very low or very high sample rates?).
Last thing to try is force software on your banks, if it ever causes a problem.

i actually get the error on the first frame that i update my event system, before i load any of the event data, so i don’t think it has anything to do with my wav banks. i tried reducing the number of hardare channels, but it had no effect.

It can only be some directsound function failing, which comes from your driver. You would be best off just filtering that error out and ignoring it. There is something wrong with your setup.
