Hello,

I am using FMOD to power a custom installer im using for a game i will be releasing soon; while you are installing the game we want to have the user listen to a story about our game, etc.

The game is for a Half-Life mod; and will be free over the internet, the only “sale” would be from say a possible inclusion on a gaming CD.

So i must ask, are there any mp3 licensing issues out there that I should be aware of? i know it is proprietary technology and am not sure under what circumstances someone has to pay royalties for it.

My thoughts exactly. Can you point me to some mp3->ogg converters?

I recommend using sound forge 6, you can load the MP3, edit if needed then save to the ogg format.

Maybe some more free software: try Cdex, an open source converter/cd ripper.

Or you can use a simple command line encoder i have written some days ago :

It works quickly, is with it’s sourcecode and the last but not least, it s powered by FMOD ๐Ÿ˜›

Right! CDex, instead, already supports RC3 and is continously updated.
