Hi,

I am having a serious problem with FMOD Ex version 4.06.12 where i get the error FMOD_ERR_UNSUPPORTED when I play the 15th instance of an event event. I have tested this with two different events and get the same behaviour.

I am using FMOD Ex 4.06.12 and FMOD Designer 1.7.09.

I think I have figured this one out now.

It actually seems to be a problem with the hardware or drivers on my computer as I recently had my computer formatted and there where apparently some driver issues when setting it up.

If I force the problem effects to play through software instead of the hardware then the problems (there where some other issues that where occuring as well) go away.

Apologies for posting this as a possible bug.

I think fmod designer is now defaulting to force software, if not we might change it.
Driver bugs are the main cause of problems with win32 audio output and we just recommend everyone use software mixing now (and you get a heap of extra features and performance bonus added with this)

Okay,

After updating my drivers several times and revertin to and from a few different versions of FMOD there does appear to be something weird going.

When using version 4.06.12 the problem occurs in hardware mode and not in software, but it appears to be hardware related as FMOD is miscommunicating the number of channels and I am getting channel stolen errors even when less that the total number of channels is being used (I have 64 hardware channels, 256 virtual channels but FMOD is reporting channel stolen for an event when only 50 channels are in use).

Furthermore the problems go away when I revert to using FMOD version 4.06.09. I will convert all our events to force software when we decide to switch over to the new version if that will be faster anyway.

Cheers,

Dave B
