I was wondering if there is any difference between fdp’s created on Mac and on PC.
I am a sound designer starting to use FMOD Designer. My setup consists of a PC and a Mac and I would like to use my Mac with the Designer. However, I wanted to make sure that when I hand off the fdp to the programmer there are not going to be any surprises.

Thanks,

Daniel

Can anyone share any comments about using Designer on a Mac?

fsb output should be the same.

I don’t know about console specific codecs, for instance is there an xma codec that can be installed on mac? This won’t be a problem unless you are building for xbox360.

One thing blatantly missing from mac version is the fmoddesigner command line utility, but you’ll not miss it unless you use it regularly for automated builds.

output will be the same, as mentioned, you can’t export to formats like xma and gcadpcm (and i think vag) because there are no microsoft or nintendo provided dlls that work on mac. For this reason its possibly better just to author only on mac, and do a command line build or something on pc.

So you are saying that I can create .fev files but not .fsb files for PlayStation (because they’re using VAGs)?

we use encvag.dll on windows from sony, so no, no ps2/psp export on mac either. You have to petition ms/sony/nintendo for these encoder libs we can’t bypass them.
