We are using asio for monitoring and it all works fine with 2d stereo,
but we are unable to preview/monitor in 3d surround.

We use the RME fireface and also installed asio4all but that also only works in stereo.

I queried this not too long ago – the response at that time was to use the direct sound output (I’m using protools which doesn’t work with the dsound output – this meant updating my pc sound card) and changing your speaker prefence to 5.1. (control panel->sounds and audio devices->advanced and choose 5.1)

I haven’t come across any other solution but please keep me posted if you do. Hope that helps, Peret

asio doesnt support ‘5.1’ or ‘7.1’. They just have arbitrary channel maps where you have to assign each ‘asio channel’ individually to the speaker you want.
We have to add a GUI to do this, so thats why you can’t just ‘turn it on’.

I can see that it is bumped in the priority list though. We have a few new people working on designer now so we can churn through some of these features faster now.

well even if it did arbitrary channel mapping –
1 – left
2 – right
3 – center
4 – rear left
5 – rear right
6 – sub

that would be good @ this moment we just get two channels via asio.

this is quite a BIG limitation and i would think makes FMOD useless on most (better/asio) DAW.

I know it is totally crippling our surround mixes and we are using FMOD on almost all our game projects.

Putting in a map like that wouldnt work, it must be done properly. It would just come out on all the wrong speakers on every other sound card besides yours.

We’re probably adding an ASIO gui for our next update next week.
