I have a lot of cutscene VO mixes in stereo and LCR versions for 5.1. I’m currently using 6 channel wavformatEX files for the surround mix VO, but this is wasteful in terms of disk space, (fsb size) as the wavs have blank data in 3 channels. To get a saving, I thought we might use a 4 channel WavFormatEX instead, but Fmod automatically routes a 4 channel wav to L,R,Ls,Rs. Would be very very handy to be able to define channel routing of mutli channel source material in Designer, then I could route it to LCR Lf instead, and remove 30% from my data footprint..

The next version will actually allow mapping to be set, but right now it only allows 2 mapping options ‘all mono’ which puts every voice in the center channel, and ‘all stereo’ which puts every second voice in the frontleft, every other second voice in frontright (ie so 10 channel music made up of 5 stereo interleaved wavs can be placed correctly).

It will simply be a case of selecting in the wave bank screen, in the field where it lists the wavs under ‘channels’ from 4ch to 4ch with some sort of alternate mapping.
We can look into it for a future version.

Brett, will this bank wave channel mapping also work with mono and stereo files, or is it limited to 4 or more channel waves?
