I’ve found that, quite often, FMOD Ex will skip the first second or so of MIDIs. It’s odd… on careful listening, it seems that nothing is actually being skipped, but instead the first few notes of the MIDI are being played very quickly, so quickly in fact that the offending notes all run together, causing a rather unpleasant twang in the beginning of the song.

I can’t reproduce it with every MIDI, but here’s one with which I’ve been able to faithfully reproduce the problem in the latest versions of FMOD Ex (the problem has existed since the first version of FMOD Ex, but seems to have gotten progressively worse since then):

I can confirm that this problem exists in the latest development version, 4.07.20.

Hm thats pretty odd, because that midi plays fine here. I compared it to media player in windows and using createStream with fmod.

How are you opening the file?

I’m using createStream with mode FMOD_2D | FMOD_LOOP_NORMAL. It’s odd… the problem appears to be more pronounced if other audio programs (such as Winamp) are open, but I’ve been able to reproduce it with nothing else running but my game.

Also, I can reproduce this problem faithfully under Vista, regardless of whether anything else is running or not.
