is there a way in FMOD to play a sound but not have anything go out the output? the problem is i need to get the frequency spectrum and if my channel volume is low i don’t get anything… so i need a way to "mute" the output of my program, is there any way to do this in FMOD 3.75?

So why not mute the line-in for "play control" and use for "Record control" only?
I’m not sure if it can be done with FMod due muting issue, but using waveIn api should work and provide better results because there’s no delay (no need to playback just to get spectrum), or use, which does all the recording and spectrum stuff.

yes, basically, i’m trying to get access to the sound iTunes is playing on my machine, but since i found that to be impossible, i brought a Y chord, hooked it up to my machines output, my machines input and my speakers, so now whatever is played goes back into my computer as input. Now with that sound, i’m trying to get the spectrum of.
If you know of an easier way.. please let me know.
so my issue here is whatever i record, i "simultaneously" playback and capture the spectrum from, but with DSOUND, the sound obviously causes a nuisance to my computers output. and with NOSOUND i don’t have access to the recording drivers.
