Discovered an FMOD crasher…

If I take an event (2d or 3d), add a reverb send effect, bring up the surround pan tool and then try to audition the sound, FMOD crashes.

This happens regardless of whether or not I have an active reverb in the chain.

Question relating to this…(this is how I stumbled on the bug).

If I bring up a 3d event (with an active reverb) and audition it through FMOD, it defaults its playback to the center channel only, and I don’t hear any reverb whatsover. Is this the expected behavior?

I didn’t understand why I wasn’t hearing reverb on this, so I started messing around some. I set my sound for loop playback and brought up the surround pan tool, and moved the cursor around (yes I realize this is supposed to be for a 2d sound). As expected the panning didn’t affect anything as far as position was concerned, but what was interesting is that I did hear reverb during this process. As soon as I closed the surround pan tool, the reverb disappeared.

Next I brought up the 3d audition tool. Moving the cursor around did produce changes in position, but I still didn’t hear any reverb. It was at this point I though perhaps I needed to manually send signal to the reverb by applying a reverb send level effect. And the moment I add this effect (with the 3d audition tool up) and try to play the event…boom.

Give it a try and tell me if the results are the same.

Thank you,

FP

Minor correction to my last post. ONLY the 3d pan tool creates the crash, and not the 3d audition tool.

Thanks for reporting this, I have reproduced the problem and fixed it for our next release.

You hear it coming out of the center channel because it is positioned directly in front of the listener. When I do that test, I can hear the active reverb being applied, which is the expected behaviour. Are you sure you have a reverb active in your test? How do you activate the reverb?

Hi Ben and thanks for the reply.

Strange…I cannot reproduce this behavior now myself (regarding the disappearing verb). I’m positive I wasn’t imagining it as it kept me very baffled for a good long time. Yes I was sure I had an active reverb. I chose it on the reverb tab and clicked on the play button to enable it.

Again I found it odd that I wasn’t hearing the reverb except when I had the 3d audition tool up which is what prompted me to look into other things such as reverb send level effects. Really it was this behavior that led me to the crash bug.

Anyhow, it has mysteriously started working properly. I’ll keep an ear out for repeat behavior and will report whatever I may find.

I am having the same problem. I don’t get crashes though. Very Strangely some sounds, not all have this behavior. and another thing. When I use the audition 3d on a sound with this problem I get reverb only when the red dot is in the upper left section of the audition tool and when it’s in the other sections, no reverb.
