I’m working on an interactive 3D environment right now, and I’m trying to get the 3D speaker spread working for some of my stereo files. I read on some earlier forum posts that using the speaker spread is the way to go if you’re looking to keep the directionality of a sound intact when it’s far away but have it appear to fill the stereo space when you’re very close to it.

I’m having a bit of trouble actually getting it to work, though. When I add the 3D spread event parameter and set its value (70 degrees for the time being), no sound plays in the environment. When I delete the parameter, the sounds are back to normal. Is there something extra that I need to play around with? This could be something on the programmer’s end, also.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Nevermind, we fixed it. There was some sort of glitch with one of the sound banks.

Got a couple of questions on this topic from our sound department:

Can they use Mono sounds with this as well or only Stereo?

When enabled this only works with software mixing?

Thanks.

luckysnorkel – the 3D Pan Level is the effect that controls 2D/3D morphing over distance. Check the Designer docs for info on how to do this.

MatReturn – Yes – mono or stereo will work, but only in Software (i.e. VAG or GCADPCM will not work).
