My game’s live-minidump-fetch mechanism indicates a rare init FMOD_ERR_OUTPUT_CREATEBUFFER failure on the second attempt when using the recommended windows startup sequence.

I.e:

[code:ysrn3ld7]
...

FMOD_RESULT result = PSystem->init(Get_Max_Channels(), FMOD_INIT_NORMAL, 0);
// From the FMod manual:
if (result == FMOD_ERR_OUTPUT_CREATEBUFFER)
{
    FMOD_CHECK_RESULT(PSystem->setSpeakerMode(FMOD_SPEAKERMODE_STEREO));

    FMOD_RESULT hr_init = PSystem->init(Get_Max_Channels(), FMOD_INIT_NORMAL, 0);

...
[/code:ysrn3ld7]

I’m seeing the second init fail again with FMOD_ERR_OUTPUT_CREATEBUFFER.

What is going on here? And how should we proceed? Or is there another attempt that makes sense?

I have already handled the no-drivers case with setOutput(FMOD_OUTPUTTYPE_NOSOUND).

Using 4.14.04

Thanks,

Tom

It most likely means their system is hosed somehow. Its an exception to how any machine would work normally, so its most likely not recoverable.
