I got my programmers to implement the Network API. I’m trying to run both the game and FMOD Designer on the same machine. I’m able to connect using the default IP address 127.0.0.1. At that point, selecting an event in FMOD causes an hourglass in Windows to appear, and it takes about 30 seconds for the properties screen to fully draw. When I do make a change to an event parameter, it’s not updated in the game.

Any thoughts? Thanks,

Jim

Hi Jim,

I guess the best thing to do is identify where the problem is occurring. Are you running Windows XP or Vista?

Try running FMOD EventPlayer, and load the .FEV. Open Designer and the appropriate project (.fdp) and connect to 127.0.0.1. If the network auditioning between EventPlayer and Designer is running OK, it might indicate the problem is in the programmer’s game code. If this test has the same issue, then try it on another computer. Once we have eliminated other issues, we can focus on Designer.

Are you changing the event parameter range or just the parameter cursor (red vertical line)?

Neither will work 😉

Changing a parameter range is not supported at runtime (only 3D mindistance and maxdistance are supported). Take a look at pg.74 of the current manual – it lists all the properties that can be tweaked remotely.

Changing the parameter cursor will not have any effect, as the parameter value should be coming from the game engine, not Designer – though we do have plans to extend auditioning in this direction.

I hope this helps.

Templar

I’m running XP. FMOD designer ver. 4.9.8.

When I try connecting to the event player, it always fails.

The parameters I tried changing were event volume and 3d/2d mode. Neither of them had any effect.

Sorry Jim, support for network auditioning of event player wasn’t added until 4.15.00….which would explain why it is failing. Is there any reason you aren’t using the latest stable? There have been a number of fixes to network auditioning since 4.9.8 (though none would specifically address the issues you are having). I’d suggest downloading the latest Designer, and connecting between Designer and Event Player. At the very least we could dismiss any network issue (unlikely).

At this point, I think there is an issue with the connection between Designer and the game. Until resolved, I don’t think any of your remote tweaking will be audible.

Sorry for not being more helpful.
