Instead of moving from chunk to chunk in a piece of music, i want to just play a single multichannel file, and mix levels between stereo pairs.

ie. in its simplest form; when nothing is happening play channels 1&2 in an interleaved file. When something is happening, leave 1&2 playing, and turn up channels 3&4 in the same interleaved file. if something is happening AND the player has The Golden Unicorn Amulet Of Almighty Pazuzu, then turn channels 3&4 down to 50%, leave channels 1&2 at 100%, and turn channels 5&6 up to 100%, all in the same multichannel interleaved file.

Is this approach possible through Fmod Designer? When I read the documentation it seems more focused on moving from part to part as opposed to mixing channel to channel, so i thought I’d check in here to see if people know a way to achieve this.

Any pointers? Any info is appreciated, thanks!

Take a look at the ‘Fun with multi-channel files’ tutorial in the FMOD Designer manual. It explains the use of the ‘channel mix effect’ and routing. I should point out, this is not part of the Interactive Music tab – so any cue – conditional style logic will need to be provided by the programmer.

The example ‘MultiChannelMusic’ that is shipped with Designer also demonstrates how to mix channels of a multi-channel wav file.

cheers,
