I have some UI ideas for you guys that I thought I would share. They may have been mentioned in the past, but I thought I would give it a shot.

It would be really helpful to be able to have a sound definition ‘bin’ open at all times in the event editor pane. This would help speed up the repetitive task of adding many instances. Think of it as having the add sound window open at all times. For that matter, it would be super cool to have the ability to tear off any window in a modular fashion similar to the way you can with visual studio pro.

It would be extremely awesome to have keyboard short cuts in the event editor for all or most of the options that are available through right clicking. Like adding a new sound (if there could be a bin, this would not be as necessary) adding a new parameter etc. I find that working with FMOD is very mouse heavy, which can take its toll in terms ergonomics and efficiency/speed.

It would be cool to have a ‘previous/next parameter’ function in the parameter properties window so you don’t have to keep opening and closing it. This would be extremely helpful in the event you need to switch between multiple parameters.

Alright, back to work for me. Thanks for listening! Hope this post wasn’t too redundant. I should mention that I really enjoy working with FMOD Designer. Its a fantastic tool that keeps getting better and better with each release.

Hi,
Thanks for your input, it’s always good to hear from our users and we like to know what would make your lives easier :-)

We definitely have plans to improve the Designer interface, including the ability to tear off windows as you describe.

The keyboard shortcuts are a good idea as well. I personally like to use the keyboard as much as I can, so I know where you’re coming from. Obviously we’ll always have a non-keyboard way to access features too.

Regarding the next/previous parameter idea, perhaps it would be better to make the parameter properties dialog non-modal? See for example the segment properties dialog in the music tab. This way you could simply click the parameter you wanted to edit and have the dialog change appropriately.

Thanks,
Ben

Thanks for your reply!

Yeah, thats a great idea too. Similar to the way parameters are always visible in the Event category tab depending on which event is selected. That way if you select any given param, its properties just show up.
