I’m not sure if this is the right place to post possible bug reports, or as a result whether these have been posted before..
Only recently started using designer v 4.17.01 and have noticed some crash bugs. Noticably when I accidentally tried to delete a Sound Definition folder that still had events referencing it, designer crashes. I’ve also noticed the same bug seems to happen when you attempt to delete a template that is linked to 0 (zero) events. These were reproduced 100% of the time.

Not yet, our tools guys have only just integrated fMod 4.16.01 with the BigWorld engine (before it was using 1.7 as standard (!!!) ), and advise me that we are sticking with that version for the moment.
I guess my question is since we’re using 4.17.01 of designer with 4.16.01 of the engine, I presume this means we can safely use 4.17.03 of designer comfortably with the older API?

Yes it is ok to use a newer designer with an older branch, but the minor version usually has to be updated in the API, so at least 4.16.03 to use 4.17.03.
I would recommend it anyway due to these 2 fixes in 4.16.02
– Fixed a memory corruption when loading an FSB with named syncpoints.
– MP2/Mp3 – Fixed extremely rare crash or ‘chirp’ based on combination of
source data, and seeking, which made the mpeg decoder think a frame was
mp2 when it was actually mp3, purely by chance on a random section of bits.
