This may sound like a silly question, but: Where’s the volume control for segments in the interactive music tab?

Unfortunately, there is no volume control. At this point Designer does not handle segment level envelopes nor routing of segments to separate categories (roughly equivalent to a mix channel).

Dynamic mixing is on our roadmap for interactive music although it is not currently scheduled for the near future.

Ah, got it. Thanks for the reply! It would be great to be able to change the volume for a segment as you would for a sound definition. Until that day comes, I’ll do it the old fashioned way.

Just out of curiosity, I wonder how people are addressing this issue until a volume feature is added. Obviously one way is to level all of the assets in a DAW first and then have code in a volume decrease to the music event category. But are there other ways to adjust volume?

Which brings up another point, how do the assets from the music tab interact with the music event category? Say you are developing a game for the xbox 360, which has a TCR for music being separate from all other audio. Do assets from the music tab get ‘placed’ in the music event category even though they are not ‘visible’ when viewing the event category tab?

Hi,

That’s right. The music system implicitly uses the music event category.

Designer does allow you to adjust the volume of the music category. The attenuation will apply to all segments however.
