Hi Folks,

I’ve done a bit of digging around in the Tool, but can’t find a way to do this. How do you go about setting random volume and pitch variations on looped sounds whilst they are playing. I’ve looked into the velocity function, but this only seems to work if you want exact parameter changes over an exact duration. I’m thinking about simple background ambiances.

What i want to achieve is the following:

4 separate loops are triggered, one in each of the front and rear speakers.
Rather than specifying for instance, that after exactly 2 seconds do this to the pitch and after 5 seconds do that to the volume, i want to specify a more random action (I know programmers hate the word random!).

For instance, after the sound has triggered wait between 5 and 30 seconds, then change the pitch -3/+3 semitones with a transition time of between 5 and 10 seconds.
I would want to apply these dynamic parameter changes to each event layer independently.

Anybody know if this is possible with Designer?

regards,

Simon

I’m not quite sure by what you mean by ‘transition time’. Do you want to change the pitch over time?

I’ve made a little test .fdp which does most of what you ask. The only limitations I encountered were:

  • You cannot do semi-tone based pitch changes to sound definitions
  • I had to use a parameter with a velocity and volume curve for each layer to avoid all sound playing when the event is first triggered

If you would like the fdp (it uses the sounds that come with Designer), send me a PM.

cheers,
Templar
