I am planning to use a Music-stereo sound sample with Headpones and panning the sound left and right to inform direction to the user as and when needed during the course of interaction task. However using the sound on Headpones may result in making the music sound unpleasant compared to using it on Loudspeakers . Can anyone tell me how i could overcome this problem? I would like to use FMOD for the purpose and would also like to know how i could enhance the music to sound more pleasant and spatial using FMOD?

you may try first the stereo widening solution

Then you can try HRTF, but this is not in my opinion a good solution as the resulting effect depends highly on the subject.

Stereo widening seems to suit my requirements more as I also need less computationally expensive method. Is stereo widening effect supported by FMOD at all?

I don’t think so, but this could be an easy thing to implement using a custom plugin on the stereo output.

you may also include a small latency to the reinjected channels to achieve a correct widening
