Hi,

First of all, I HATE DIALOGUE! Now that that’s out of the way, I’m looking for a quick (ie Automated) for a few different tasks within the designer.

  1. I have a series of Sound Definitions already set up in the designer. Each definition needs one event, each event will have the same name as the definition included in it, and all events will have the same properties. Ideas?

  2. I have a series of events for an AI. I have more AIs with the same series of events, however a small section of the event name is changed. IE there events labeled AI_Sam_Bark, AI_Sam_Die and AI_Martha_Bark, AI_Martha_Die.

For #2, I’ve already tried a number of things. First I tried a merge by duplicating the session, stripping down all the data except one list of events, doing a Find/Replace in a text editor, and merging the sessions back together. Unfortunately I get a crash when I try and merge (v4.19.02).

I’ve also tried a basic find/replace within the session but I find that the XML is so large I can’t pinpoint the specific areas I need so I end up replacing sections that shouldn’t be replaced.

Anyways, these are my tasks for tomorrow. If you can suggest anything, I’d love it, as it will cut the task time down from a day to under an hour.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Dave

If your waveforms have the same name as your definitions, you could click drag all the files from your file explorer to the Events tab, which will create an event and a sound definition for every single file and plug the two together and even let you select a template first, if you’d like. Even if the names are a little different, this still gives you a head-start on a lot of work.

I actually did exactly what you were talking about with regard to editing the XML and actually had a lot of success with it. For example, I had a line of weapons with all the same names, but trailing descriptors like "_1A" to describe them more specifically. The waveforms, project name, and FSB names all employed the same naming structure, so I just created a template project and then did a find replace using the trailing descriptor. Saved me weeks of time.

Lastly, if all else fails, try this tool:

It’s for keyboard/mouse automation. It’s an excellent last resort.
