Hi,

I’m interested in doing some quality testing on GC ADPCM files.

Is there a way to extract WAV data from a GCADPCM encoded FSB file?

Alternatively, is the GCADPM codec the same as the THP codec in FFMPEG?

Thanks,
Matt

The only thing that can play back GCADPCM data is a gamecube or wii, there’s no PC code that can play the data back, so you would have to download it onto a Wii to try it.

I’ve never heard of THP so I couldn’t answer that.

I saw that THP is an ADPCM codec used on Nintendo GameCube’s in FMV ffiles. Libavcodec can decode those FMV files – see:

http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/HTML/en/me … codec.html

I was wondering if that is the same ADPCM as GCADPCM.

I also assumed that since FMOD Designer can encode to GCADPCM to build sound banks that it could also decode them.

Does the FMOD Event player play back GCADPCM sound banks? (sorry if this is an rtfm question – i haven’t rtfm’ed enough just yet….)

No, event player can’t play anything except pcm/ima adpcm/mp2/mp3 banks. Others are platform specific.
The reason we can encode from designer is that there is an encoder dll that nintendo gives us, and it has no source code. We just call it to encode the gcadpcm.

Thanks for the link. That may be it, and there are also emulators that seem to allow software decoding, but we can’t really touch those right now due to the license issues.
