Hello,

I was planning on doing a set-up where I use a 4 channel wav-file (2x Stereo) in which two versions of a musical theme plays parellell then using the channel mix effect to switch between these two versions. As it is a music theme I want to have it in a streamed wavebank with some compression. Pretty much stuff you can learn from the tutorial in the manual.

What I’m wondering is if this is completely supported and playable by all build formats (PC, PS3, xbox360 etc.)? I just want to make sure before going through with it since a 4 channel wave-file seems sort of like an unconventional file format.

Yes FMOD will support a 4ch wav (and even set up the pan as 2xstereo – see wavebank rightclick on the wav file entry) and export it on all platforms (ie mp2/adpcm/mp3/xma/vag/gcadpcm/pcm will all work)

Has to be a stream though iirc.

Ok thanks!

Luckily for me, I’m streaming. But isn’t multichannel files most useful for music and longer files that need to be synched anyway? And should thereby be streamed. Or am I missing an area of use?

Yes, that’s what we use them for, but because we stream heavily from disk for textures and levels, we have to have them loaded into ram. I work around this by pre-registering them.
