A current project I work on uses the A3D aspect of FMOD but since someone was so kind enough to remove a needed audio format for the project I am helping with would they be so kind as to please RETURN A3D 3.0 support to FMOD in the next version of FMOD or in a CORRECTED version of 3.6 including A3D. I thought FMOD was about compatibility. 👿 Well in a project I work on A3D mode is considered for compatibility since just about all A3D 1.0 cards support the a3dapi.dll driver. 😀 So to the person(s) in charge of FMOD development. It would be greatly appriciated if you would return A3D support. Thank you and have a nice day. 8)
Oh! That’s because A3D 3.0’s Reverb and Reflections are Software Accelerated. If you have an SQ3500 Turbo they are Hardware accelerated by the Motorola DSP Module card. However since the SB Lives and such Emu10k chips have DSP cores it MIGHT be hardware accelerated on those. Besides, having FMOD continue A3D support for developers would be nice. For some oddball little reason the A3D 3.0 SDK won’t install on Windows XP. OUCH!
True but on a SB Live! A3D is the only method of producing audio that doesn’t have all that annoying reverb and distortion EAX has. I deal with EAX 2.0 dude and it really does suck in the terms of quality sound A3D 3.0 provides even if it’s emulated.
Yes some people say since Aureal is dead A3D is dead too… well IF A3D is dead, would somebody please kindly explain to my why my SB Live! when combined with the A3D 3.12 driver (a3dapi.dll) runs Half-Life without a hitch in A3D audio mode completely and still with full spacial and occlusion effects?
A3D may only be emulated nowadays, but even when emulated it still carries the same audio effects and quality it did on Aureal hardware.
Oh well if 3.7 or later doesn’t ever include A3D I can live with FMOD 3.5 and by the way, if anyone needs an A3D driver for SB’s just let me know. I can e-mail it and the installer. Small file too.
Brett what I meant by compatibility means simply that we know there are Aureal users out there so they fully support A3D audio on there cards, so we support them same as we know there are 3dfx users out there still who have Voodoo cards with Glide2x support. Compatibility programming means to try to support everything for everyone no matter how obscure.
