Hi fellas,

I have questions about in-game microphone placements – is it possible to manually set places for each microphone positions? Currently FMOD seems to be designed mostly for fps games where listener position is always attached to the playable character. This is a problem when you’d need microphones to be away from each other.

TOPDOWN

Let’s say i have this topdown game like Shadowgrounds ( http://www.2404.org/downloads/Shadowgro … 746941.jpg ) and I want to place microphones to it. I want to put C in the middle of the screen, FL near middle left, FR near middle right and surround microphones to "bottom corners". All microphones are about 4 meters up from the ground. Camera is static and player is always at the center of the screen – camera moves when player moves.

I’ve stumbled upon this same problem before and developers just didn’t have time to any fancy adjustments and they just moved listener position far away from the player character… all front channels worked nicely but there was no data in the surround channels.

SIDESCROLLER

I want C to be in the middle of the screen, FL middle left, FR middle right AND surround channels away from the screen "behind the player" for ambient sounds etc. (Braid is an example of this setting http://www.mtv.com/shared/promoimages/g … rld_2a.jpg )

Thanks for your time,

Ari

You may be able to get the results you’re after by using System::set3DSpeakerPosition and setting the listener position appropriately.
