Hello,

This kind of got us by surprise when we saw our wavebanks growing in about 20% size after we’ve upgraded Fmod Designer to 4.25.09 and not changing anything. We had Optimize Sample Rate set to "Yes" and then found out that a new "Use Old Method" option is available (which when used made our soundbanks identical in size to what we had before).

What exactly is the difference for the "new" method? Should we be using that?

Thanks,
Pedro

Hi Pedro,

The new optimisation method is more accurate in determining the smallest resampling rate for which the result should sound the same as the original file. Whereas the old method was more approximative in how it determined the differences between the original and downsampled audio, the new method is based on calculating the differences in sound energy and uses an audibility threshold of -60dB. This means results are more accurate and consistant so we do encourage you to use it!

Using the new method will generally cause wavebanks to grow. It is more sensitive to high frequency audio content than the previous method and is therefore more likely to choose higher sample rates in order the preserve the high frequency content.

Kind regards,
Gino
