Bug report: Designer 4.27.00

After saving a document, the * disappears from the window title indicating that the document is not "dirty".

Immediately after this, clicking in the menu bar immediately puts the * back, when the document clearly has not changed.

Hi Matt,

I wasn’t able to repro this bug. I can imagine this happening if you are editing a property (or something similar) and clicking the menu bar causes the editor to loose focus, validating your input and hence modifying the file. Does that sound like what might have happened? I tried a variety of editors in designer but didn’t get the result. Please post some steps if you can get it to happen again.

Cheers,
Gino

Hi Gino, thanks for having a look so quick. It’s fairly easy to reproduce, sorry for the lack of details:

  1. open a fmod project
  2. select/create a sound event
  3. click on a property value, eg 3d min distance
  4. type a new number
  5. CTRL-S for save
  6. click in menu -> there’s the *

Prompts me to wonder whether the file was saved with the value I was typing, or not…

Yes, it sounds like the losing focus scenario. Perhaps the document should only be marked "dirty" if the value has changed.

Also, this only seems to happen for some fields – typically the ones without "spinner" up/down value buttons.

Further info on this bug: It only happens on numeric fields. If the cursors is in a text field (event name, notes, etc) then the * does not appear in the title bar when clicking in the menus.

Hi Matt,

Yeah, the problem occurs with number boxes that don’t have spin buttons (floating point number boxes) – these validate when they loose focus. We’ve fixed this issue for our next release.

Cheers,
Gino
