Hello all,

I would like to know if it’s possible to use fmod to directly capture sound from the sound card (while it is being played) and process it in real time. What I saw until now in the API seems to rely on processing saved files.

Thanks a lot,
ACG.

I need something like this:

but for Windows XP — does it work like described in the post linked above only in Vista/Win7?

Thanks!

Some sound cards provide a "what you hear" device, if you have one of these you can use it as a recording device just like any microphone or line input with FMOD.

However if you do not have a sound card that provides this you will need to find an alternative method of acquiring the currently playing audio stream. That link you provided indicates one method that is exclusive to Win7 / Vista. To do the same with XP you would need to look at the DirectSound documentation.

Thank you, in the meantime I got to roughly the same conclusions, but it’s good to have confirmation from someone knowledgeable :-)
