I have been witnessing two cases which have been causing some confusion:

1) I play a 5.1 custom sound clip via FMOD ingame in 2D. The clip has considerable subwoofer presence, lots of deep rumble. It plays as it should on Sound Forge 10 and Win Media Player (PC), but when I play it in-game on the Xbox360, the LFE track is much quieter.

The subwoofer track works fine on our 5.1 Bink Video clips. Their audio is not played via FMOD.

2) A gunshot sound that’s played in 3D. Usually when you fire the gun, there is a noticeable LFE punch in the sound. However, when firing the gun at certain angles, the LFE punch is lost. When you find that "magic angle" the loss of LFE happens almost every time.

What could the problem be?

We’re using FMOD build 4.26.09 on Xbox360.

Found out why 1) happened, it was actually a problem on our side. The sound had been played in a Category that had a custom 5.1 speaker configuration, in which LFE had been disabled. It’s fixed now.

So, we no longer have the problem with 2D tracks, but the random loss of LFE in 3D sounds (namely the gunshots) is still an issue. 😕
