Hi,

I’m experiencing problems with the mentioned FMOD Ex version on iPhone.

Sound are playing with a small but annoying delay. This delay happens both on emulator and on iPhone 3GS. Build for 3.1.2.

Sounds played are simple mono wav’s. Played with the basic soundSystem->playSound.

Older version of FMOD from last year (don’t remember the exact version, but before the 3GS performance fixes) works ok.

Anybody else experiencing this?

It also happens on the simulator and with the FMOD examples as well. It’s just a slight delay with playsound. Can be heard in the standard playsound example. When you release a button, there’s a small delay before the sound is played.

There is a small delay between requesting a sound be played and hearing it. This used to be shorter before we added buffering to combat stuttering. If you look at setDSPBufferSize, this controls how big that buffer is. It defaults to 1024 samples * 4 buffers, this is the same as Windows.

You can try setting smaller values, take a look at the log output on the TTY to see what size buffers are actually being created. The hardware generally advises it may request up to 4096 samples, hence our default. Currently the code will force the buffer to be at least as big as the minimum hardware request size.
