I’ve recently transitioned from using FMOD EX to Designer on a sound engine I am working on and am running into the aforementioned issue. I made a project in Designer, build into the folder as specified in setMediaPath below, and when I build the project(VS2008) it gives me an unhandled exception when it hits load.

[quote:4td9fp7o] result = FMOD::EventSystem_Create(&eventSys);
result = eventSys->init(64, FMOD_INIT_NORMAL, 0, FMOD_EVENT_INIT_NORMAL);
result = eventSys->setMediaPath("Assets/SFX/");
result = eventSys->load("SFX.fev", 0, 0);[/quote:4td9fp7o]
The call stack says it was in fmod_event.dll when it hits this problem and I have rebuilt the project several times in an older and the most current build of Designer. All the prior function calls returned FMOD_OK so the initialization shouldn’t be the issue. I’m pretty sure it can find the file but either there’s a problem with the actual FEV or FSB file, the way I’m setting the path is wrong, or something else completely random I can’t explain.

Any help is greatly appreciated

Hi SomeGuy, welcome to the FMOD forums!

We have been unable to reproduce your problem here. Could you please email your fev and fsb files to support@fmod.org?
Please also let us know what version of the API you are using and what version of FMOD Designer.

I used the 4.24.05 and 4.28.07 builds of the Designer and its API and rebuilt separately on both.

When I get the unhandled exception it will be an access violation either attempting to write over something it shouldn’t like 0x00000000 or say Illegal Instruction. Could this possibly have something to do with my hardware?

I’m working on a school computer whose specs aren’t great but I think should support what I need for Designer. Another guy I know using Designer has no issues and almost identical implementation with the 4.28.07 version but works off his laptop and what I imagine is better hardware.

Edit: Sent files to support e-mail

I have tested your files and they seem to be alright. It could be the hardware, can you try running the examples that ship with the API and see if they have any problems on that machine?

Just tried loading the examples.fev in the media folder provided and got the Illegal Instruction error. At this point I’m really not sure what it could be, I’ll ask one of my professors if there’s something the school computers don’t like about Designer, otherwise I may have to scrap using it entirely and go back to just EX.
