We are having problems playing 3D sounds on a PC with a Creative Audigy. We are using FMOD 4.22.05 with Designer 4.23.05, and we use the event system to play all our audio.
In Designer we couldnt play events, and got an error message that said ‘Error: Invalid parameter passed to function’ – this went away when we changed the output preference from DirectSound to WASAPI. This only happened with sounds set to 3D – 2D sounds played fine.
In game however, we don’t hear any 3D sounds. On other PCs with more basic soundcards we have no problems with any sounds.
Are there any obvious things we could be doing wrong?

Hi davidsream, welcome to the FMOD forums!
Most of these hardware specific issues can be resolved by swithcing over to software based soundbanks. There is very little performance difference and it allows more consistent behaviour across different platforms.
OK thanks, we found that forcing the game to use modes that worked in Designer fixed the problem
ie: setOutput( FMOD_OUTPUTTYPE_WINMM )
I figure that this may still throw up problems, so whats the process to switch over to software only soundbanks? Is it something you do in Designer? Apologies that this topic is slipping into a different forum catagory

Don’t sweat it, it’s not the first time.
To change a soundbank to software: go to "Wave banks" tab of designer and set the "Force software" property to Yes. Job done.
