This isn’t really a feature request, these are just mad idea’s that have popped into my head while working with FMOD.

I am so not a coder, I come from a music background and sound design…
but I am getting pretty good understanding what the FMOD API can do once it’s set up and integrated into a project, how cool it can be….occlusion, reverb, 7.1, DSP effects, 3d, geo detection. FUN !

but….

wouldn’t it be cool if the connecting to the FMOD network to realtime mix was just a big connect button up the top somewhere over by the platform dropdown or something….rather than in a menu, sometimes, builds crash, well during making games, a hell of a lot!

it be awesome if FMOD just disconnected and you could press a big button up the top to re-connect after you re-launch:) (over and over and over again)

OSC or midi support !

love how the new mixer feature works with FMOD Designer 2010, how awesome would it be if you could "midi learn" the mixer to a controller surface. great for mixing down a project :)

I take use of the categories and treat them like a 16 channel mixer :)
using them like bus channels, or channel groups
but just rocking text and numbers, I’d so love a slider ! mapped to some hardware :)

Or even better, OSC support, imagine mixing a FMOD project via a iphone/ipad app such as touch OSC, build your own custom mixer…
mix everything from the comfort of your couch.

extreme goodtimes indeed.

or even build your own patches to control things with cycling 74’s max 5 during the mix down process…endless options :)

A Master limiter, I emailed and asked FMOD about a limiter,I tried the normalizer, didnt really like what it did to the sound, but that’s just me…
just something that you know is gonna be sweet, i heard rumours the xbox 360 has it’s own limiter ? what about the ps3?

and even just a master VU level would be awesome in DB ranges, so you could see how much sound is pumping out of a event or over-all, you can just make it out in the profiler (microsoft zoom too just dont cut it for me)

cheers

Yeah you’re right, there shouldn’t even be a dialog box for this. A simple field with a connect button next to it would be nicer (say under the platform dropdown/or to the left of the project dropdown), and you shouldn’t have to differentiate between profiler and audition connections/IP, designer should just work it out automatically.
Previous connections/favorites would be just displayed in a drop down menu.

I’ll put this on our task list.

I assume you are alluding to control surfaces, we’ve got this planned.

The normalizer is an old effect – the compressor is more advanced. We’re talking with 3rd party DSP companies for more pro level effects, and mastering is one of the first priorities.

360 does have a limiter but it is platform specific. We could probably look at enabling this somehow.

awesome, thanks brett, cant wait, it’s those little things that will really really help…being able to have a brick wall limter and being able to mix via some hardware, thanks heaps for your response. looking forward to those features.

cheers a mil

The ability to midi control FMOD Designer would be HUGE.
FMOD is great as it is, but that would be the icing on the cake. Cant wait to have more hands on control of things in FMOD…

Will this feature be part of the upcoming FMOD Studio?

Cheers,
Daka.
