So I’ve been away from FMOD and the forums for some time. Back now, and immediately running into more issues with surround panning. As always, I assume it is my own ignorance, but any help would be appreciated.

While possibly related to my other post with the same general topic, my current problems are more closely related to what some of the others seem to be experiencing. Let me explain.

I am running Designer 4.32.00 (August 11, 2010) on an XP machine. A sound blaster XFi card is properly installed.

My speaker settings on the system are set up for 5.1 surround, and appears to operate correctly. When I run the basic Creative Labs console, it allows me to click/test each individual speaker and all is good.

However, when using FMOD Designer I can’t seem to audition sounds in surround. For example, I set up a simple 3d event to play, and then open the 3D Audition Tool. I choose ‘Circle’, and audition my sound. It seems as though the left/right positions work fine (center channel doesn’t…volume dips very low as it passes through the central point), but as soon as the sound travels behind me at all it virtually disappears (reappearing of course once the moving red dot reenters the upper half of the circle). I get the same results if I try manually dragging the position of the dot.

Seems similar to what Chrissey was describing. Designer appears to be acting as though this were a stereo setup. This is clearly not a game related issue as this occurs when I am utilizing Designer as standalone.

I’ve double checked most of my settings and can’t seem to get this most basic issue resolved.

Chrissey wrote "I just found out, that the Program works correctly on Windows Vista,
but doesn´t on Windows XP…

The project was build under Vista but i tried Xp, too.
Doesn´t work either!

in designer i force software playback. i also tried to force the vista-pc to use directsound output but it pans right anyway.

Is there any way to fix this?"

But I’m not sure if she meant FMOD Designer doesn’t work on XP…

I can’t imagine that would be the case.

Help anyone?

Mods? Any suggestions?

One of our programmers was able to duplicate this issue with a similar setup. They have the identical problem.

I would assume if this was a Designer issue we’d see more posts regarding it. But I am at a loss as to what to try next.

This issues has been resolved through FMOD support. Our next release should have the bug corrected.
