Just read something interesting in the "Getting started with FMOD for PlayStation 3.pdf" file about "maxPCMcodecs".

Can I confirm I understand this correctly?

maxPCMcodecs is actually the total number of sounds which can be played simultaneously, including PCM, MP3 and ADPCM sounds from memory and streamed from disk, right?

Which really means even though the maxADPCMcodecs is defaults to 32, only 16 of them can really be used at a time (maybe the ADPCM codec decodes from its buffer into a PCM buffer, I suppose).

Is that right?

Hi Matt,

The maxPCMcodecs is the number of streams, and decompress into memory sounds that can be played at once (as these are all essentially PCM sounds). This includes all formats that are streamed, or set to decompress into memory (ie loaded with FMOD_CREATESTREAM or without the FMOD_CREATECOMPRESSEDSAMPLE flag).

This is seperate from sounds that are marked as load into memory (ie loaded with FMOD_CREATECOMPRESSEDSAMPLE). The maximum of these is set with the maxMP3codecs etc respectively.

Regards,

Chen-Po
