Is there any way to get the bank memory size of a project ? Since our audio memory budget is limited, we need to balance the sound quality against the budget. Having a basic knowledge of the bank memory size might help us make our decision.

The size of the bank in memory is whatever the size of the bank is when you build it. What’s much harder to find is the size of the metadata required to play your event – its layers, parameters, effects and envelopes. This can be a very significant cost, especially if you use a lot of complex events. On the two FMOD projects i’ve completed, the metadata accounted for around 50% of our memory budget leaving us only around 11MB for actual sound data.

You can get an idea of how much metadata your events are generating by playing them in FMOD Event Player as that tells you how much memory is used by the events as you play them, though the figures can vary significantly depending on what you’ve already played so it would take a lot of work to get an accurate breakdown of a large project. It would be really incredibly useful if Designer had a metedata estimator that updated as you added and removed thigns from the event.
